Empowering teachers through thoughtful PD.

We offer free facilitation guides for meaningful PD to elevate teachers’ mathematical understanding.

Supporting education and innovation.

We believe everyone deserves to feel mathematical freedom, even (and especially) teachers. We create facilitation guides for meaningful mathematics professional development anyone can use with teachers. Our PD facilitation guides provide guidance and details to stand alone. If interested, we are also happy to facilitate. Contact us for more information.

Our PDs are unique in that they offer greater capacity in your district as participants can be trained to be facilitators. Teachers respect colleagues who facilitate PD, who can also better support teachers in reformed pedagogy. Our PDs are designed to empower teachers, enhance mathematical understanding, and support effective pedagogy.

Teachers have consistently found high value in our PDs, often feeling freed from their math anxiety, and excited to spread the word of mathematical beauty.

Multi-Digit Multiplication PD

Our multi-digit multiplication PD (MMPD) unpacks the complexity of the traditional multiplication algorithm. By exploring and revealing hidden mathematics behind the algorithm, teachers gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the algorithm.

I couldn’t believe how awkward and tedious it was to switch to the traditional algorithm after taking this PD. I can’t believe that’s the only way we were ever taught to multiply large numbers! I can’t wait to teach this!

What is a Fraction? PD

Our “What is a fraction?” PD offers teachers the chance to truly understand what a fraction is. Giving teachers ample time to process, collaborate, and question, this PD strives to hone in on the meaning of the numerator, denominator, and the connections between the two.

My understanding of what a fraction is has definitely changed through taking this PD. I never really thought about how I do not take into account my “understanding” of fractions and that my students may not know what I think to be common understanding(s).

Addition and Subtraction Algorithms through the Lens of Place Value PD

Our place value PD works to unpack the complexity of the traditional addition and subtraction algorithms by focusing on the role place value has in the algorithm. This PD not only attends to place value, but also works to develop a deep understanding of the importance of being flexible within representations of numbers. Highlighting ways algorithms work to help us be efficient, effective, and useful, our Place Value PD will enhance teachers’ appreciation for place value.

I feel that one of the strengths of the training is the learning process we go through, and how this helps to learn concepts in a different way, or relearn something learned wrong.
